I. Khevsur.


1) The Barisakho community,
living along the banks of the Khevsur Aragvi River.

The first 4 communities live to the south of the Greater Caucasus. The villages lie along the right bank of the Khevsur Aragvi River, mostly along the banks of the tributary streams which flow into it from the right-hand side, up to and above the Okherkhevi Stream.

3) The Roshka community,
living by the north-western spring of the Khevsur Aragvi River.

This community began to develop around 60 years ago [i.e. around 1810-20 — A.B.] following the arrival of emigrants who settled down in the lowlands of the Ertso Basin, either joining Georgian or Pshav settlements or founding their own small villages.

* The Mtiul in the Ertso Basin are also emigrants, whose homes lie in the high valleys to the south of Mt. Kazbek. Their name comes from the word mta, 'mountain, mountain range'.

6) The Indurta community.


The members of this community and those of the following one have largely emigrated to the lowlands along the Alazani River [in western Kakheti — A.B.], to the east of [the town of — A.B.] Akhmeta; they move up in summer to the rich pastures of Tbatana at the southern end of the Massara mountain range (see Itinerary), but still consider Indurta as their property and even leave 2-3 families living there in winter. By the north-western spring of the Tusheti Alazani River. [...] Together, these two communities made up the Tsova community until 1866.

2) The Djokolo community.

The inhabitants of Djokolo have been baptized since 1866 and all live in the Pankisi Gorge. The 5-verst map indicates the three main villages of this community viz. Upper, Middle and Lower Djokolo.

3) The Omalo community.

The inhabitants of Karlis-tskali are Pshav, but belong to the Omalo Kist community. Some of the Kists of Omalo are baptized: of the community's 381 souls, 94 men and 88 women belong to the Christian faith, and only 199 Mohammedans remain.
